How much to trust each forecast day

Typical miss of the day's high, by days ahead (US forecasts, 2016)

Is the precip forecast better than the usual odds for the date?

The usual odds: how often there was precip on that date in past years, with no forecast at all. A bar to the right of the white line: the forecast does better than the usual odds; at the line, no better; to the left (striped), worse. NOAA's forecasts of precip in a day, across the US, scored for 2025.
